Overview
Pokemon Platinum Version follows the footsteps of games such as
Yellow,
Crystal, and
Emerald. It will be an enhanced remake of the Pokemon
Diamond and
Pearl Versions, offering a variety of subtle features, including a new makeover of the main male character, Lucas, who sports a blue outfit with the same scarlet berret.
Linking
Of course, no Pokemon game is any good if you can't interact with someone else. In Platinum, the linking is mostly the same as Diamond and Pearl with a select few exceptions.
Trading Pokemon -- Trainers will have the ability to trade their Pokemon over the air with the wireless DS connectivity. Trading with unknown players from around the world is also available through the Wifi Internet connection.
Battling Others -- Over wireless connectivity that is built into the DS, players can battle each other to show off their skills. This feature is also Wifi enabled, giving everyone the chance to battle anyone from anywhere.
Pal Park -- In Diamond and Pearl, connectivity to the past GBA games was brought about, allowing players to stick their GBA cartridges into the GBA slot while their Diamond and Pearl games were running in the NDS Card Slot. Through this, trainers would be allowed to transfer their Pokemon from their past games to Pal Park where they could be caught yet again. However, after they have been transfered, transferring back to the GBA game is not possible. It is safe to assume that this will be the case in Platinum.
The Underground -- It is being reported that the Underground will not only be available to play in for those who are in close range of each other, but it will also be Wifi enabled in this game.

Diamond and Pearl introduced the Pokemon Global Trading Station, an online website that is still being run by the official Pokemon Company. The trading station allows for players to easily find a Pokemon that they want without the hassle of having to do such within their game. It makes for quick and easy trading with anyone in the world. It is safe to presume that the same will be such for Platinum version, however, this has not been confirmed by the officials.
New Features
Most of the new features are merely enhancements to Diamond and Pearl Version, leaving very few, but large items. The following are expected, but not yet confirmed.
-- Giratina will be the "poster Pokemon" of the game in his origin form.
-- The Underground will be Wifi enabled.
-- There will be a "Battle Island," similar to the Battle Frontier in Pokemon Emerald Version.
-- There will be new forms of Pokemon including Giratina's Origin form, Regigigas's Sky form, and Shymin's Another form.
-- Volkner will be replaced with an unknown gym leader at Sunyshore City.
-- The game will feature a plot line in which Cyrus summons Dialga and Palkia, wakening Giratina who will do his best to stop Cyrus at all costs. (See Below)
-- Lucas will be sporting a blue outfit with his same red berret. (See Below)

Objectives
Every game is the same in the common goal of becoming the best Pokemon trainer around. This is done by acquiring all gym badges and eventually beating the Elite 4. Afterwards, there is the tedious task of collecting all the Pokemon known. This is done through different ways of linking with one another (see Linking) and battling to get your score as high as possible. There is also a minor side plot in which Cyrus awakens Dialga and Plakia who begin to clash, causing the awakening of Giratina who fights to stop them.
